I was thinking about signing up at a very nice gym in town called “The Center”. The catch is that they have a “one time health assessment fee” (most gyms tout a free health assessment when you sign up). Well, this “one time fee” is an obscene $150. But according to them it’s waived down to $35 if you get a doctor’s referral. OK, $35 is still a lot, but I’ll treat it as an “enrollment fee” type thing that many gyms have.
So I go ahead and call my doctor to inquire about the referral to lower the fee. According to the nurse, they only give referrals if you are obese or have high cholesterol. Well, I’m not obese, and my doctor described my cholesterol level as “perfect, incredibly perfect!”
What happened to “exercise is good for your health” or “exercise is good to keep you from becoming a fat ass”? I don’t get it. They are supposed to call me back this afternoon.
