Is SARS chic?

My arm is peeling. Could it be because of a sunburn or is it SARS?

Is SARS chic? All the Canadians are doing it.

Uplink

I found a new game. And this one is great. Specially if you are a computer freak *cough*cough*Brian*cough*

Uplink

I started playing last night and I got hooked. It has a short 3-part tutorial. It explains the interface and it walks you through a short test mission so that you can get up and running quickly.

It even feels like you are using one of those fancy computers using HOS (Hollyood Operating System)

You sign up as a hacker and you accept missions to break into computer systems from all over the world retrieving/deleting information from those systems. You have to use hacker tools, set relays so that you dont’ get traced, etc. It’s not as tough as it sounds and it’s actually fun.

Check it out if you are a fellow computer geek.

Relive your childhood

Remember when you were a kid and you set up a lemonade stand? You’d spend countless of days bugging your parents to buy you cups and lemons and sugar. Then you’d get all excited while building a stand and creating a sign. Finally the day came, you set up your stand to sell lemonade with dreams of gold and fortune.

Yeah, I don’t remember that either. In fact, I don’t know of anyone who had a lemonade stand as a kid. But regardless, here is a game that will bring your capitalist child out of you in a matter of minutes.

Lemonade Game

I have spent countless of minutes playing this game. I’m sure you will too! I made it to about $40 before I had to stop playing it. It’s so simple, it’s addictive. Hint: Once you start selling your lemonade, click the Fast Forward button.

Infone

I was watching TV and I saw a weird commercial for something called Infone. So I decided to check out their website to see what they are all about.

They are basically an information and concierge service for 89 cents a call (first 5 calls free.)

I sound like a compensated sponsor, but I’m not. I just think that it may be a useful service. I can think of several times when we are driving around a city we don’t know and we’d like to know if there is, for example, a Macaroni Grill in the area. Or driving directions to a movie theater we can’t seem to find no mater how long we drive around.

It just seems kind of neat. Their website, mostly their FAQ section, is rather amusing.

Long weekend

What a long weekend. Not that I am complaining.

We finally started our summer schedule at work. This means that we work 9 hr days Monday through Thursday but we get out at 11:30 am on Fridays. And Monday is Memorial Day. So that means that I have an almost 4 day weekend.

On Friday, after I took a nap and watched a DVD, I was convinced that it was Saturday. The meeting I had had at work earlier that morning seemed so far away.

Then I had a long day yesterday. Let’s see, I got up, went to the gym, went to Taco Bell (to regain the calories I had just burned, of course), then I went clothes shopping, then grocery shopping, I balanced my checkbook, paid bills, drove to the post office, did 3 loads of laundry, cleaned out my closet and washed dishes.

Tonight I’m going over to Dennis’ to watch a DVD or two and have a couple of drinks. So that should be fun.

And I still have tomorrow off. Yay for holidays!

The Earthlink Bus

Last night I had a dream that I was in San Diego. We were at a party with several other people. I was a little sleepy. So I’m on the couch, talking to people and I fall sleep.

Next thing I know, I wake up in bed the next morning and I learn that we had all gone to the beach. They said that I was very sleepy so they were all swimming in the ocean at night but they let me sleep on the sand.

Then we all came home by bus. But not any bus. I guess we had stolen the Earthlink Bus (a bus owned by the Internet company) and had driven it home. The next day Earthlink called and asked us to please return their bus.

Undoing life

Sometimes I wish that life had an undo button.

I just got done moving a heavy plastic mat around my office and I didn’t like its new position. I was feeling too lazy to move it back to its original position. The first thing that crossed my mind was “I wish I could undo.”

Satelite Dreams

I sent this email to Kane, a DJ on the 90s channel at XM Radio:

“I’m not obsessed with XM Radio but I do listen to channel 9 most of the time
when I’m driving. Last night I had a dream that we were touring the XM
studios. You were doing your show and you came to greet us. I remember
being shocked because you were like 5′5″ and had a mullet.

I just had to get that off my chest.”

It’s true. I really dreamt that. He emailed me back shortly thereafter with this:

“OH MY GOD. YOU SCARE ME.

Haha! Great e-mail. This will be a good hour worth of show today:)

-K

PS: Stay away from meeee!”

Water and alcohol

When I got up this morning I looked at the tagboard (the chat thingy on the left) and saw that someone had taken offense at a couple posts I made about drinking water while drinking alcohol.

First he took offense to comment I made that said “a smart drunk is me”. Obviously this guy:
- Doesn’t have a sense of humor.
- Doesn’t know that this is the language my friends and I use when joking (a [insert something stupid here] is me. Example: a smart drunk is me.)
- Doesn’t know that I rarely drink.

Then he went on this little rant about how water makes it worse when you drink and told me to consult with a doctor.

Well, Mr. Internet Stranger (since you didn’t leave an email address, I need to adress your comments here). Water does indeed help with your alcohol level.

Alcohol will dehydrate you. How? Well, go talk to your doctor. But so that you know what you are going to hear, let me explain things to you as simply as I can. Alcohol lowers the release of vasopressin. Vasopressin is an antidiuretic hormone (reference) that makes sure that the water level in your blood is where it should be. So the more you drink, the less vasopressin in your body, so the more you get dehydrated. Your kidneys can simply not expel the toxins out of your body (through urine) fast enough.

Drinking water during and after drinking alcohol will get that wonderful hormone doing its job once again, getting your kidneys working like they should and restoring the water level in your blood, therefore lowering the effects of alcohol while you drink as well as how you feel in the morning (a hangover is your body reacting to being dehydrated.)

And since what that guy posted was false and pointless, I deleted his messages. Discussion may continue in the comments section of this entry.

Ouch

I went to a baseball game yesterday. I was out for about 3 hours. I got burnt very badly.

I wish that this picture of my neck/shoulder could show the pain I’m in.

sb

It doesn’t do it justice. It’s worse than it looks.
