I have my limits

I consider myself a very patient person but I have my limits.

Today I had my yearly doctor’s appointment at 9:05 am. I go to him once a year and he checks me for a lot of stuff. So I got there at 9 am and I checked in. I was starting to get annoyed when by 9:15 I had still not been called. I make an appointment for something, I am not a walk-in. But that’s fine, sometimes things get delayed.

Finally at 9:20 they call me, they take my blood pressure and ask me to wait in the examination room for the doctor. So I wait and I wait and I wait. 9:25, 9:30, 9:40, 9:50. Finally at 10 am I got up, exited the room, found a nurse and said “my appointment was at 9:05, not at 10. I still haven’t seen the doctor.”

They apologized a million times, they were giving me all kind of excuses such as “the 2nd patient threw us for a loop this morning.” To which I almost replied “I really don’t care” but I didn’t, I just didn’t acknowledge their apology. I was not going to say “oh, it’s okay” because it wasn’t. I made an appointment, I’m paying good money to a doctor and I knew that once he saw me, he’d rush things to get to the other people waiting.

More people should do what I did and maybe show the doctors that our time is just as valuable as theirs.
