Movies and people

Sometimes I wonder why I go to the movies. Not only are tickets expensive but people do not see to know how to behave at the theaters.

Sure, I should know better than to go to a movie on a Saturday night, but you’d think that a movie that starts around 10 pm and ends around midnight would attract mostly adults. Boy, was I wrong.

I went to see Tomb Raider 2. Let’s start by the group of about eight 12 year olds sitting on the 2nd row. They kept talking, getting up, changing rows, running to the bathroom in groups, coming back. All this before the movie started. But it was not much better once it started. Every few minutes a group of them would walk out of the theater and come back in. I didn’t get it. I wanted to scream “shut up and sit down!”

Now we can talk about the 12 year old sitting behind me with a bag of popcorn. Eating his popcorn with mouth open. It sounded like I had a rabbit behind me. I wanted to scream “eat with your mouth shut!”

And finally, on the same row as me, there were what I would say were a couple of white trash lesbians with their daughter. The daughter, who was between 8 and 12, wouldn’t stop saying “cool!”, “wow!”, “aahh”, and of course “what’s going on?”, “what’s that?”, “what is she doing?”, “what happened?”. And of course the mother didn’t care. In fact, she would answer. And as if that was not annoying enough, her lover kept talking to her as well. So basically the three of them talked through the whole movie. I wanted to scream “shut your mouth!”

And I guess that while I’m bitching about last night, I should ask, what’s the deal with commercials at the beginning of a movie? I got to see three commercials last night. One of them was for jeans, another one for a shampoo and I forget what the third one was about, but it was some other commercial. I’m paying good money to see a movie in bad conditions, do not cram commercials down my throat. Show them before show time if you want to, but not when it’s supposed to start. Or if you want to show them during show time, lower the price of the tickets.
