Joe Schmo, a hit

Last night I got to see the 2 hr premiere of Joe Schmo. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s a fake reality show where one guy, Matt, is fooled into competing in a reality show titled “Lap of Luxury.” All the other contestants are actors. They all live in a big fancy house and play for immunity.

Of course all the situations are scripted, except that Joe Schmo has no idea. He is honestly trying to play a game that gets weirder and weirder by the minute. The contestants are also rather amusing and somewhat stereotypical. Such as the hot, big breasted virgin, the 3-times-divorced marriage conselor, the asshole and the buddy.

Since Joe Schmo has no idea that it’s fake, he may (and does) act in non-planned way, throwing the actors and producers for a loop more than once.

The host cracks me up. He is serious and says things such as if you are elminiated, “you’ll go back to your miserable life and work for the man.” The eliminination ceremony includes tacky ceramic plates with pictures of the contestants, as he calls them, “your own colector’s plate.” When a person is eliminated, the plate is broken and thrown into the fireplace and the host says “you are dead to us!”

It’s over the top. They are trying to see how much they can get away with, and it is just plain funny.

Tuesdays, 9pm eastern (8 central) on Spike TV. I can’t wait for next week’s show.
