A visit by a drunk guy

A friend was supposed to drop his step daughter off at my place between 6 and 6:30 this morning. I told him to just ring the door bell a couple of times and that it would be good enough to wake me up.

So I’m sleeping and at around 5:20 am I hear the doorbell. I figured that they were just early. I get up, turn the lights on, and open the front door. I don’t see anyone right away. A couple seconds later I see some drunk guy say “hi” to me as he tries to come into my house!

I freaked out, I wasn’t sure what to do. I found myself saying “I don’t know you” and I closed the door in front of him and turned the lights off.

Then I was worried thinking that maybe he’d still try to come into the house or simply pass out on the front lawn. So I waited a minute or two and walked back to the front door and, with all the lights off, I looked outside. I didn’t see him. I figured he left, probably to go knock on someone else’s door.

United Way

It’s that time of the year when at work we are given United Way donation forms. It’s a nice organization to support, except that United Way supports certain organizations that I do not agree with. Thankfully they let you specify which organizations can or cannot receive part of the money you donate.

So, as I do every year, I donated a decent amount of money to them, but then I specify that the boy scouts may not receive any of my money. This is due to their discrimination policies. They are welcome to discriminate against anyone they want, but they will not get my money until they stop (and they won’t.)

Joe Schmo, a hit

Last night I got to see the 2 hr premiere of Joe Schmo. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s a fake reality show where one guy, Matt, is fooled into competing in a reality show titled “Lap of Luxury.” All the other contestants are actors. They all live in a big fancy house and play for immunity.

Of course all the situations are scripted, except that Joe Schmo has no idea. He is honestly trying to play a game that gets weirder and weirder by the minute. The contestants are also rather amusing and somewhat stereotypical. Such as the hot, big breasted virgin, the 3-times-divorced marriage conselor, the asshole and the buddy.

Since Joe Schmo has no idea that it’s fake, he may (and does) act in non-planned way, throwing the actors and producers for a loop more than once.

The host cracks me up. He is serious and says things such as if you are elminiated, “you’ll go back to your miserable life and work for the man.” The eliminination ceremony includes tacky ceramic plates with pictures of the contestants, as he calls them, “your own colector’s plate.” When a person is eliminated, the plate is broken and thrown into the fireplace and the host says “you are dead to us!”

It’s over the top. They are trying to see how much they can get away with, and it is just plain funny.

Tuesdays, 9pm eastern (8 central) on Spike TV. I can’t wait for next week’s show.

Ellen

So Ellen has a new talk show coming up on September 8. I’ve been a big fan of her since way in the day before her sitcom, when they would just show snippets of her stand up.

Well, she has a website for her new show. It’s your normal website. But I got a kick out of the flash file of her at the bottom. She appears and talks to you and I don’t know, maybe I’m bored, but I liked it and it sort of made me laugh.

99 cent kids meals

I should have known better than go to a restaurant where their Sunday special is “child’s meal for 99 cents.” Parents cannot resist the urge of taking advantage of the irresistible 99 cent grilled cheese sandwich.

All I could hear around me was “aaaah” and “waaaah”. The kids may be saying “this is the most delicious corn dog I’ve had in a long time”, but to me, it just sounds like “aaaah.” The crying and loud screams of joy and happiness ruin a perfectly good meal.
