Gobble GobbleHave I used that subject before? I probably have. Anyway, I just wanted to make a quick post to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. A Thanksgiving full of stuffing, arguments, pumpkin pies, fights, and of course, lots and lots of whipped cream. Isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about?
Stepping away for a few daysI’m taking a few days off the blog, a week or so. Maybe. I’ll probably still make an occasional post, but I won’t make an effort to post daily (not that it always works) until Dec 1st. It’s a mini blog vacation. In the meanwhile, please keep an eye on it. Feed the dog. Water the plants. And don’t let those darn children near my mailbox. Speaking of which, I’m anal about checking my email, so feel free to drop me a note and I’ll write back within 24 hrs. That won’t change. Happy Birthday, MickeyToday everyone’s favorite mouse turns 75. His ears are as perky as they’ve always been, the pants still fit him and I don’t see any wrinkles around his eyes. But did you know that his likeness would have entered public domain this weekend had congress not modified copyright law based on requests from companies such as Disney?
Pies recipeDeclan said “And where, pray tell, did you get the recipe?” on a comment to my previous entry. I should say that we got the recipe from Declan himself. Cook extraordinare. Do keep in mind this: 1 tbsp of salt is not the same as 1 tsp of salt (a mistake we made the first time we used his excellent recipe.) I’d post it here, but I don’t have it with me. So I’ll just tell people that it’s my own secret recipe passed on from generation to generation. PiesAlcohol and pies night was fun. There were a lot of laughs and a couple minor accidents and burns, but overall, the pumpking pies came out great. I paced myself with the drinks so I didn’t have a rough morning today. No hangover. But I did sleep until 11:30. So what, it’s my weekend!
Random thoughtsI’m going to Dennis’s place tonight. We are making a couple pumpkin pies, from scratch! Yes, that involves real pumpkins. There will also be alcohol involved which will make it that much more exciting and challenging. Hot appliances and alcohol are a perfect combination. By the way, are you looking for a good song to listen? Are you into dance type music? Check out Rock Star remix by Jason Nevnis (original song by N.E.R.D.). I don’t really care for the original song, but the remix is awesome.
Can you hear me now?Good. I think that all my DNS problems are over already. Everyone should be able to read my ramblings again. I’m surprised at how many people asked me about my site. I didn’t know that people often visited this site. It’s kind of neat.
DNS UpdateI had to make a change to the DNS info for renteria.net. This takes about 24 hrs to go into effect, so it should all be back to normal by morning. Service was spotty today.
DOS AttackAs several of you pointed out today, the renteria.net domain was down all day until recently. No webpage, no email services. I apologize to those of you whose email address is hosted at this domain. What happened? Well some asshole/s decided to do a Denial Of Service attack on the nameservers that handle renteria.net. This basically means that my server has been unreachable all day. I went ahead and made some changes to my DNS so this problem should be solved for now. Let’s hope that all the new DNS settings are correct and nothing messes up. So I’m back online….. for now.
Stupid airlinesSo I needed to change a return flight, I called Continental and they informed me that for me to change that flight, I would have to pay them over $700. I’m not exagerating. Instead, it was a heck of a lot cheaper to just buy a new ticket for the new dates and use the previous ticket purchase towards a future flight (minus the change penalty.) Why do they do this? I guess somehow they probably still come out ahead. But I’m always amused at their horrible policies. I’m glad that are no other businesses ran like airlines or we’d all be pulling our hair out everyday.
