Thank you, Dallas

Thank you, Dallas from North Virginia for sending me the gift of 2 free iTunes songs via the code you found in your Pepsi/Diet Pepsi bottle caps. I’m going to enjoy finding what to get with those 2 freebies.

If anyone else out there doesn’t have a use for the free song codes, then I’d be eternally grateful if you donated to my iTunes charity.

Super Tuesday

My dad, in Spain, has heard the term “Super Tuesday”, which is what I also keep hearing on the news. Something about the primaries or whatever. This is what my dad send me on an email this morning:

“I had read on the newspaper that today is Super Tuesday, so this morning I woke up a little apprehensive, nervous and even with some high expectations. I woke up little by little and while I was eating breakfast I was thinking that today is going to be a great day. How couldn’t it be with a name like that? Later I walked up to the window the window, looked outside with intrigue and excitement just to see if there were any external signs of such a wonderful day, unfortunately I didn’t observe anything special. So I thought that even though Super Tuesday was here, it was probably not the right Super Time yet. And like I do everyday, I started watching TV. I’ll confess that I watched it with more curiosity and interest today than other days since no one knows what could happen.

11:30 came around and I didn’t see anything special happening, so I got ready and went out for a walk. Neither on the street nor in the places I went to did I see anything different. So I was home by 2 pm, somewhat disappointed if I may say so. Then I ate lunch and took a nap, and still nothing happened that merited the “Super Tuesday” title. I’m starting to think that this is an American invention to distract the world population and give us some excitement and help us get through our boring routine. Of course, there’s always this afternoon! Who knows!”

Monopoly. Can you say mo-no-po-ly?

Today I’ve decided to deal with my cellphone company. And let me tell you, it’s a treat. Here’s my situation:

I want to upgrade to one of their national plans, so far so good. And I have two options. The one that would make the most sense would be to sign up with a 1 or 2 year contract and pay $99-$149 for the phone depending on the length of the contract. My problem is that there is a very good chance that I will be moving to the San Diego area before my contract is over. No problem, I get a San Diego number when I move, right? Wrong. They will not give me a number over there if and when I move, I’m stuck with a Kansas number until my contract expires. So then people trying to reach me would have to make long distance calls. Lovely.

My other solution, to not agree to a yearly contract but pay $300 for the phone.

It is as if they do not want to do business.

Why don’t I sign up with Verizon, or Cingular or similar? Because out here in this area of freaking Kansas, those nice(r) services are not available. Alltel practically has a monopoly in this area.

This is so frustrating.

I feel great

If you have broadband (and QuickTime) you must watch this commercial. “I feel great!”

I wonder if it’s a real commercial. Anyone know?

Passion of the Christians

The other day a lady walked into my office asking me if I was going to go see “Passion of the Christ” this past weekend. This is how it went:

Lady: Are you going to see the movie?
Me: No.
Lady: Why?
Me: It doesn’t appeal to me.
Lady: But it’s about Jesus.
Me: Okay, but I still don’t know why I should see it.
Lady: It’s a story from the Bible!
Me: But that’s still not good enough for me to go see it.
Lady: It’s Jesus, it’s a story about Jesus.
Me: I still don’t see the logic behind that.
Lady: Well, it’s in the Bible, and it’s about Jesus. You are not going to go see it?
Me: No. I was brought up Catholic, I went to Catholic school, I went to Church 3 times a week.
Lady: You are Catholic?!?
Me: Yes, I was brought up Catholic. I know most every story in the Bible.
Lady: Oh ok. Well, I’m gonna go see it. Have a good weekend!

I still don’t see why I should go see a movie that I do not like just because it’s a story found in the Bible, or because it’s about Jesus.

Religion: A business with a loyal following.

Expensive freebie

1 in 3 bottles of Pepsi have a code for a free song on iTunes. So far I’ve bought 3 bottles and all 3 were losers.

This free song thing is going to cost me a fortune.

The best of Blur

Today I got an email from someone in North Virginia who among other things pointed out that the caricature at the top of my page looks lot like the cover of a CD titled “The Best of Blur”.

I suppose it does. It’s the same style. If I had to choose one of the 4 caricatures, I would say that the one on the blue background may be the one that looks the most like me back when I had hair and no goatee.
