Barkley, the guard dog

I was playing with Barkley this morning. We were all the way up by the bushes, he was smelling for dead birds or whatever he likes to find in there. Next thing I know, he barks and starts running in the opposite direction.

I thought that something had scared him, but somehow he had smelled a dog, in our driveway, about 100 yards in the other direction. And Barkley ran all the way up to the dog and scared it away. As soon as the dog was gone, Barkley went ahead and made a nice pee trail to let other dogs know that he controls that area.

After that, he came inside, and drank a lot of water. I’m sure it was to recharge his large territory-defending tool.
