Explanation for the cakeI was thinking how I never really explained the Happy Gary Day cake post. Well, I work with this guy named Gary. He is cool and fun to hang out with. So Ron and I decided to invite him over to have dinner and a few drinks. While thinking what to make for dinner, Ron decided to make a plain white cake and put some kind of white chocolate almond frosting on it. While baking it, we thought it’d be funny to write something on it for Gary and after a couple of suggestions we decided that “Happy Gary Day” would be funny. So I mixed some frosting and food coloring and then put it in a zip-lock baggy. And as I have seen the Good Eats guy do many times before, I cut a small hole in the corner of the bag. I then squeezed the frosting out. And you know what? It’s not as easy as they make it look on TV! That “H” is scary looking. The first “Y” is backwards, and the Ps and Ds look the same. But Gary liked his cake. He also got a kick out of Ron’s comment: “We chose red so that it matches your pubes.” Gary is one cool straight guy and I’m glad to have him as a friend.
Car-Bike accidentI was playing outside with Barkley when I heard a loud noise outside and the brakes of a car. The lady driving that car (probably talking on a cell phone), ran a stop sign and crashed against a motorcycle. The guy was OK, I heard him laughing a couple minutes later. 3 police cars. 1 ambulance. 2 fire trucks. Happy Gary Day!
Welcome to the new server!Yay! *fanfare* Welcome to the new server! Not only is this server faster but I am also using a new blogging system. It’s called Wordpress and it’s so much better than MovableType. I love it. The only problem is that I can’t get the comments from the commenting system to be assigned to the correct posts, so right now the comments will appear under the incorrect posts. Any new comments will appear in the right places. So I’m not quite sure if there is anything I can do about the comments other than to delete the old ones. But we’ll see. Enjoy!
Server moveI’m going to host my site on a different server. This means that for the next couple of days, my site and email me be unreachable at random times. I also plan on moving away from MovableType for my blog management to WordPress. This means that my site may be up, but my blog may not. Or maybe things will look weird for a few days. But hopefully I’ll be able to get everything working properly asap. I’ll try to begin my move tomorrow. May the force be with me (I hate Star Wars by the way.) Kansas: As big(oted) as you thinkThe new official slogan for Kansas is “Kansas. As big you as think.” Now the lawmakers in this big state have decided to show how bigoted they are by subjecting the rights of a minority to the bigoted wishes of the majority by working on adding an anti-gay marriage amendment in the state consitution. So it is of no surprise that this is the new slogan being passed around:
Feel free to pass it on.
Wanna go outside?Every morning Barkley and I have a ritual. After I get out of the shower and get dressed while avoiding his lickings, I ask him “wanna go outside?” and he gets all excited and I take him out through the backdoor to the backyard. So once again this morning I ask him, I put a leash on him, and we start walking… he suddently stops and starts running towads the front door. He begins to look me, then the door, then me, then door, me, door, me, door. All this time his tail is wagging like crazy. “Oh, you want to use the front door?” And so we go out the front door. And what’s there? The yellow school bus he loves so much. iPod ShuffleI kinda sorta need a 1G flash drive to transfer files. I could spend $80-$100 on one. Or I could spend about $145 on an iPod Shuffle.
The (not so) great iTunes wallI am an iTunes Store fanboy. I love the store, I buy things from it all the time. Today I was bored and I thought I’d switch my store selection to the “Spain” store just to take a look at their Top 100 chart. I wanted to see what songs are hits in Spain. I recognized a few, but there were several in the Top 10 that I had not heard before. For example, a song titled “Lift Me Up” by Moby, a great dance music artist. I played the sample and liked it. I figured that since I have several of those free iTunes/Pepsi song credits, I’d go ahead and grab it. So I switched back to the US store and it was nowhere to be found. I go back to the iTunes Spain store and I find a great remix of “Four to the Floor” by Starsailor. The original song is boring and dull, the remix makes it catchy and fun to listen to. Switch over to the US side of the store and the remix is not listed. All I can find in the US store is the typical collection of crap by 50 cent, Ashley Simpson and Jennifer Lopez. People bitch about the type of music that we are force-fed in the US but I never paid much attention to their whining, but I’m starting to see how much truth there is to it.
Tougher driving testsI swear that every single person driving out there should not be driving. First I get stuck behind some old man who could have not been going faster than 2 mph. Whenever he’d stop at an intersection, half his truck would stick out past the stop sign, then for a, say, left turn, he would first turn towards the right, turn the blinker on, and finally take the left turn. Every time. I was finally able to pass him. Shortly after that, a guy decides he needs to make a left turn from a parking lot, across 4 lanes of traffic. So he waits for the perfect moment to pull out. Three lanes of traffic have to slam on their brakes, including me. The guy gets all pissed off because of the near-collision he caused and starts making gestures in his vehicle, finally he looks at me and makes gestures telling me to keep going so that he can pull behind me. I just drove past him slowly while holding up my middle finger. No, really. As I reach my destination, trying to pull into the parking lot, a guy is sitting there, in the entrance, driving a huge SUV, in the middle of the entrance, so there is no room for anyone but him. I had to wait until he decided to pull out so that I could drive in. And as I was driving back home, I take a right turn and a car decides that it was the right time to pull out of the side street, completely ignoring his Stop sign. So that was another chance for me to test my Jeep’s brakes. I have to drive to Ellis later tonight. It’s roughly a 15 min drive from here. I wonder what I’ll encounter. Or even live to tell about it.
