Synergy

I have a couple computers at my desk at work, a Windows XP system and a OS X system. This results in 2 CPUs on the floor, 2 screens, 2 keyboards and 2 mice.

This means that if I wanted to use the Mac, I had to move my Windows keyboard and mouse out of the way to use the other devices, or move to get to an area where I had set up the Mac. It sounds like a small annoyance but this caused me to use the Mac less and less each day.

And today I came across a free program called Synergy. It allows you to designate one computer with the mouse and keyboard as the “server” and any others as “clients”. You then tell the program that, for example, the Mac is to the right of the Dell (and so on should you have multiple clients.)

So now, when I move my mouse to past the right edge of my Windows XP desktop, I’m suddently on the left edge of my OS X desktop. Using the keyboard and mouse that are hooked up to my Windows machine, I can now control my Mac. Does this make any sense? Move the mouse past the left edge of the OS X desktop, and I find myself using the Windows desktop.

It’s seamless and it’s great. Now I have both screens side by side and I am using 2 desktops without even thinking that they are separate computers. It’s so natural.

Todayland

I was watching the trailer for Meet the Robinsons and this shot in it made me laugh.

todayland

For those of you who don’t set foot in a Disney theme park (crazy!) that’s obviously Tomorrowland as you can clearly see Space Mountain to the right and to the Rocket Jets to the left, which is ironic since that attraction was taken out as explained at Yesterland.

Disney orgy

If you do not want your childhood ruined, you probably shouldn’t click on this link and either one of these: Quicktime / WMV.

Be a pinball

I’ve never claimed to be a normal kid while growing up. OK, so I was very normal but I often had weird thoughts that I never shared with anyone because they were just silly.

I loved playing pinball (still do) and to me what was under the glass seemed like a magical world as weird as that may sound. I wondered what it would be like to be in a place that looked like that. To be the pinball if you will.

Apparently someone answered my question by taking these awesome pictures from a pinball point of view. Now, he did it just to showcase the beauty of the pinball machine’s art and not because he had my same weird thought, but I love the pictures nonetheless.

Japanese toilets

I’ve decided that when I own a home I’m going to buy one of those Japanese toilets that sprays water on your ass and then dries it with warm air.

That’s all. Thank you.

President Bush uses Little Richard as translator

We all know those Geico commercials where a real person is partnered with a famous person to help them tell their story. The Daily Show used one of those commercials just for fun and this is the result:

Morning commute OF DEATH!

It’s no secret that I hate Orlando drivers. Today I had another reason to hate them.

There was a pick up truck in front of me with all kinds of crap in the back. We both needed to merge into a major street. There was no traffic coming our way, well, there was, but it was almost a block away. There was plenty of time for the both of us, and several other cars, to merge.

So he starts going and suddenly he stops for no reason whatsoever. I had to slam on my brakes and I ended up inches from him.

But that was the least of my problems. He finally decides that he can merge and I follow him. This is a 3 lane road. I had gone to the left-most lane, he was in the right-most lane but then decided he wanted to be in the middle lane. So he does it pretty quickly only to have this humongous metal tube come out of the back of his track and fly towards my car.

What followed was something out of an action movie. Thankfully I was able to avoid it. I still have no idea how I did it without hitting any other cars that by that point were around me. But somehow I ended up OK.
