It’s the po-po!

Sometimes opportunities come up and you have to go for it because you never know when you may get another chance to do something out of the ordinary.

One of those opportunities came up this past Saturday.  I was offered the chance  to ride along with a police officer during his Saturday night shift.

The evening started at 6 pm and we got called right away to Walmart.  A woman had stolen some merchandise and she was being detained at the store.  She was crying and crying saying that it was the first time she had stolen anything, however, come to find out, she had a colorful past already and she was rather young.

Things picked up from there.  We got to drive insanely fast through town with the lights on to a robbery in progress.  We had a couple traffic stops.  We drove past several “problem areas” to see what was going on.  We had to visit a mother who made a report about her daughter being missing (the teenager had just gone for a walk around the block.)

I spent about 6 hours with him until midnight.  At that time we returned to the PD to eat some dinner and I didn’t want  to overextend my welcome so I thanked him for his time and I stayed behind.  He was very friendly and offered to let me ride along with him any other time I want to.  I may just take him up on the offer one of these days.
