David Renteria (2.0)

Ladies and gentlemen, please meet David Renteria 2.0

Since he is a new release (a full point release) he is an improved version.  I’m not sure what features or known issues he has, but I guess I wouldn’t mind finding out (wouldn’t that be creepy?)

Recliner update

My recliner nightmare, which got some attention here is pretty much over!

Black recliner

The company is picking up the old recliner tomorrow and all will be good in my living room again.

Recliner nightmare

I’ve been slowly been getting furniture for my living room. I wanted a recliner that looked a bit better than your average recliner. After a lot of web browsing I found a recliner that I loved:

recliner as pictured

However this is what I received:

recliner as received

See the difference? The wood is not even close!

The kicker? The people at Modern Furniture claim that they never stated that the wood is black. Well, if they don’t specify the color of the wood, what is one to assume? That the wood is the same of that on the picture.

They do not seem to be very willing to work with me on this. We’ve already exchanged 3 emails about the issue. But I hope we finally get somewhere and get this resolved because I’m ready to pull out all stops.

UPDATE: You can read about my email conversation with the company at this Consumerist.com story.

Update

Well hello.  I know I haven’t written in a while, and instead I’ve gone the lazy route by uploading pictures when I go out to the theme parks.  If nothing, they are pretty. Life has been a bit crazy I suppose.  I believe I’ve replied to every email I have received but I figured I should post kind of what’s going on.

I’m single now after about 5 years.  It happened about 2 months ago but it was a long time coming.  It just had to be done.  Some of you know why and I feel you agree with me.

Sometimes you just have to be selfish and look out for yourself and make difficult (or not so difficult) decisions. So I’ve decided that it’s time to get out there and slowly start meeting some people.  I’m not anything any time soon.  Right now I just want to meet friends and I figured that if one of those friendships turns into something more, hey, then that’s even better.

Met a couple of people so far, both could potentially be friends I suppose but I didn’t feel any kind of common ground there to build a good friendship.  But you never know, it does take time.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been chatting with someone who sparked my interest.  Great online and phone conversations if I may say so.  So we decided that it was time to meet in person and do something fun.  We decided that Universal Studios would be a good place to kill a couple of hours and be entertained.  I got up this morning, did a couple of things around the house and I waited.  And I waited.  And I waited some more.  Calls went to voicemail.  Message was unreturned.  Now granted that this guy has a job that involves long shifts several times a week and emergencies (catch my drift?) so maybe he got called into work, which happens.  However, is a courtesy call or text so much to ask for?

Meh.  No one said this was easy.  And it’s not. But other than that, things are going well.  Enjoying my job, enjoying what the city has to offer and enjoying my true friendships.

Parking space phobia

I have a fear of heights. That’s fairly normal. But I have a strange phobia. Parking space phobia. The fear that I will be unable to find a parking space anywhere I’ll go.

That is one of the reasons why I get to work earlier than most people. And why I take my lunch break earlier than most people (so that when I come back, people are out at lunch and I can find a parking space.)

When it’s time to go out at night with friends, I rather other people drive. Not because I mind driving (I don’t mind it if I know where I’m going) but so that I am not responsible for finding a parking space.

I always tell myself that this is a stupid fear and that I am making a big deal out of nothing. And sure enough, whenever I need to go somewhere, I find a parking space. I always tell myself that I have nothing to worry about. But I still worry. But I always find a parking space.

But not tonight. I agreed to meet some friends at a local club at 10:30 pm. I didn’t want to go earlier because then I’d be by myself for 1-2 hours and it’s just silly. I told myself “don’t worry, you’ll find a parking space like you always do.”

So while repeating that mantra, I headed to the club around 10:15. I get there at 10:30 and what do I see? A sign that says “LOT FULL.”

“Non sense!” I say. And I follow the other cars into the lot. I go up and down the aisles, at some point I end up going against traffic and somehow I figured out a way to turn around (not sure how) and suddenly I start feeling my phobia symptoms. I start getting hot, my forehead starts to cover with sweat, my heart starts beating faster and harder than normal. I am not going to find a parking space.

I tried for a few more seconds but I just couldn’t do it. My body was a mess. I could not do it any longer. There were only two ways to get my body back to a normal state. Either find a parking space NOW or leave. The parking space was not happening so I headed out. As soon as I hit the street, all the symptoms stopped as if someone had flipped a switch.

It’s embarrassing. It’s stupid. I am upset that I couldn’t find a space. I am upset that I proved my phobia right. And I am even more upset that I flaked out on my friends.

Going to Boston

I am at the Orlando airport getting ready to go to Boston for a few days for work. I’ll be back home on Thursday afternoon. I’m not a big fan of Boston, so I hope it goes by fast.

I’m flying Airtran and there was a HUGE like of people waiting to check in and a handful of unused touch screens. I walked up to one and checked myself and my bag in. I got plenty of nasty looks from people in the line, but whatever, I’ll never see them again. They are all going home to Minnesota or wherever. They could have done the same thing. I also purchased a cheap upgrade to business class so that my 3hr hour flight is more comfortable.

Then while waiting in line to get some lunch at Burger King (gotta love healthy airport food) there was a kid wearing shorts, t-shirt, sandals and thick wool socks. And not just any socks. I’m talking extra thick looong wool socks that disappeared up into his shorts. For the love of God, it’s summer, it’s Florida, why would anyone want to do that?

Orlando, being the #1 family destination in the country, has a disproportionate number of children. So here I am, sitting at the airport, trying to relax and there is a kid kicking a soccer ball against a wall. The parents think it’s hilarious. Everyone thinks it’s freaking annoying.

I think I’m going to move to another seat.

iPhone

Yes. I am the proud owner of an iPhone.

I got out of work at noon and I decided to swing by 2 AT&T stores near my work. One of them seemed closed, weird, so I went to the other one. There were about 5 people in line. Since I didn’t want to wait for 6 hours I decided to drive one more block and go to Universal Studios to kill some time.

I ended up grabbing some lunch and watching The Fantastic 4 movie (it was alright.) I picked up my car (gotta love free valet parking) and I drove to the AT&T store. I got there at about 3 pm and I was 10 in line.

The wait was a lot of fun. Everyone in line was very friendly, everyone excited about the iPhone and slowly the line started to grow. People were coming from a nearby Apple Store saying that there were about 300 people there so they decided to try some AT&T stores. Apparently the other Apple Store in Orlando was even worse for what they were saying.

The manager would come by once in a while with a guy from Apple and they would chat with people and answer questions. People would drive by the store and ask “is this the line for the iPhone” and then would say “good luck!”

By 6 pm the line was about 60 or 70 people long and the Orlando PD was there to keep things in order just in case. They let the first 8 in since they only had 8 agents processing the iPhones.

A few minutes later, the first lucky iPhone owner came out and everyone clapped. They let the guy in front of me in. A couple of minutes later, I was next in the store.

I told them I wanted an 8G iPhone, they went and grabbed it and began the check-out process. And then, boom! all the computers were down. So we all got to sit around for about 15 minutes while they were getting the system back up.

After that, for some reason, my agent kept having problems processing my order (figures) but after some help from a supervisor, they got everything straightened out and by 6:35 I was walking out of the store with an AT&T bag holding my precious iPhone.

I came home, hooked it up to the computer, went through the activation process and that was it!

The iPhone rules. The screen is beautiful, it’s so easy to use and even the keyboard is not bad at all. It’s a bit odd at first, but you get used to it very quickly!

While we we were waiting for the computers to come back up the guy looked at me and he said “we only have 40 iPhones, every store in town got the same amount, even the 2 Apple stores. It’s going to get nasty.”

No wonder the Orlando PD was there. Some people were going to be very upset. I got out of the parking lot as quickly as possible.

iDay

Happy iPhone day everybody.

I’m sure I’ll be the only one crazy enough out of us to wait outside an AT&T store for 2 or 3 hours to try to get my hands on the Jesus phone.
