Attention America!

I have finally found Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream ice cream at the 7-11 in Orange & Kaley (thanks Todd!)

The verdict? It tastes like the truth!

I cracked myself up out of sleep

I had a weird dream last night. I dreamed that I was having dinner with Bush among others and I cracked a joke at his expense. The punchline was “I don’t know, but I doubt I’ll be meeting with the queen any time soon!”

And next thing I know, I wake up just laughing and laughing.

Destiny

I woke up today with water all over the guest bathroom. Oh the joys of being a home owner.

I called work and told them that I’d be working from home today because of my plumbing emergency.

I called a plumber and when I got off the phone I turned the TV on. A few minutes later I see breaking news. There had been a shooting in a gas station that I drive by on my way to work every morning, at the same time as I always drive by it.

I would have probably been a witness of the event, if not more, should I had not had that problem with my bathroom.

The plumber left recently. He could not find a single reason for that water. No leaks anywhere he could find, nothing. He tried to reproduce it best he could. No water anywhere.

Weird, uh?

Peek-a-eew

I grabbed my pillow, folded in half, to support my head a bit higher while I was watching TV on the couch.

Suddently I felt something moving underneath my face. So I freaked out. I didn’t see anything when I lifted my head. But then I looked inside the pillowcase, right between the pillow itself and the pillowcase was the motherload of all lizards!

… and there was light

Who knew I could actually do some “Do It Yourself” type project myself. But I sure did and it only took me a little over an hour.

I’ve decided that I would love to have some landscape lighting. I thought about getting some solar lights since you basically just take those out of the package and stick them in the ground, but the ones I’ve seen in other houses are kind of crappy. Not very bright and they have a weird blue tint.

So I did some research and it turns out that all you need is a transformer that takes your electricity and turns it into low current power and some low current cable.

It sounded easy enough. So I drove to my local Loew’s and I got just that, plus 1 spot light and 3 path type lights. I laid the cable where I wanted it to go, hooked it up to the transformer, attached the lights to the cable, plugged it all in and it actually worked!

I have yet to bury the cable because I am not sure how things will look once it gets dark, but after I move the lights around tonight and decide whether I need any more, I will burry the cable.

Yay for easy but effective projects!

Dancing Queen

I don’t know what possessed me but when I read that the X-Box 360 (which I got for free) now has its own Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) game, I decided to try it.

DDR always looked fun, but hard. It features plenty of dance music, which I do enjoy. And I keep hearing that some people have lost weight playing that thing. You see, even though I’ve lost some weight in the last few months, I think that I could probably use losing 15-20 more pounds and I’ll be happy with my weight.

So I ordered DDR for my X-Box 360. It arrived on Friday, which is perfect timing because that gave me the weekend to test it out. And boy, have I tested it out. I have been playing that thing non-stop. My feet and calfs are killing me. But I had so much fun. It’s also very tiring. I had sweat running down my back. And I’ve slept like a baby the last couple of nights thanks to it.

The game is hard though. Kids make it look so easy. Even though after playing with it for a couple of days, I can say that I am getting considerably better at it. Although sometimes things just get too crazy.

It has a calory-burning counter and I seem to burn about 500-600 calories a day. I don’t play it full time of course, just a few songs here and there. But hey, that is almost one of my meals, or a snack.

Who knows, maybe I’ll get good at it AND lose weight!

Speed

I feel like I’m on the movie Speed. My car is overheating which means that as long as I’m driving, everything is OK. But when I stop at a light, even for just a minute, the temperature gage goes up the red level and my car stats making a dinging noise to warm me.

It’s at the shop now. Hopefully the fix won’t be too expensive, I think it’s just the radiator fan.

Spinvox

I was watching the local news the other night and they talked about a service called Spinvox where your emails are transcribed as text messages.

I got so excited when heard that. You see, I hate listening to voicemails. I sometimes know that the person just called to say “I’m on my way” or to say hi. But I still have that voicemail icon on my phone so I have to call my voicemail, listen to the voicemail and then delete it. Or what’s worse, people tend to ramble on the voicemails and you have to listen to the whole thing.

So I went to the spinvox website (kind of a creepy site) and I saw that they are a UK company about to launch the service in the US. I emailed them and asked when it’d be ready and they told me that if I wanted I could be a part of their beta test in the US. I agreed and I received activation instructions.

And you know what? It works amazingly well. I’ve had a couple of people call my phone and I sent them to voicemail. Less than a minute later I had a text message with the contents of the voicemail. For example: “Hi David. it’s Heather. Just thought I’d call & say hi. Talk to you later, bye.” Punctuation and all. Apparently they have a couple call centers with people who just transcribe voicemails as soon as they are recorded.

I don’t know how much this is going to cost, but if it’s not expensive, I can imagine getting it.

Now if they could only do the same with my voicemail at work ….

Update 3/8/07: I’m allowed to “give away” 5 free accounts on Spinvox so if you know me, and I know you, drop me a note and I’ll tell you what to do.
